LOOKING FOR A PUPPY?

Rocket City Bulldogs would like to suggest a few helpful hints to consider when trying to select the "right" Bulldog puppy for your home. Please do a lot of research before you purchase a Bulldog. Be aware of their possible health issues, and the daily care that they require. Also, do not purchase a Bulldog from a Pet Store, or from a flea market, etc. These pups come from puppy mills or backyard breeders and are not well bred. They usually have health issues which can be very expensive, or not fixable at all. The easy way to avoid a broken heart is to purchase from a reputable breeder if you are looking for a pup.

  • Education is the key word in owning a Bulldog.
Study the breed standard, go to as many dog shows as possible, and look at as many puppies and adults that you can. This will help educate you on what a bulldog should and should not look like.

  • Contact The Bulldog Club of America to find a breeder nearest you.
Click here for a breeder referral from the BCA.

  • Contact the local club secretary.
Local clubs are usually up to date on many litters that are available at any given time. It will also allow you to find out how to join the club.

  • Find a breeder that you are comfortable with.
They will be your mentor(s) and will, hopefully, be there for any questions you may have about your bully.

  • Do not be offended about questions.
If your breeder treats you like you are adopting a child--You basically are!!!

  • Do NOT buy the first puppy you see!
Check out as many puppies as you reasonably can. Bulldog pups are irresitable, and all of them look like champions when they are 8 weeks old. Look at other bulldogs in the breeder's home. This will give you an indication of what your potential bully could turn out to look like.

  • Do NOT buy a pup from a breeder you feel uncomfortable with.
Remember, you SHOULD be in contact with this person during the lifetime of your pup. You will need to trust them as they will, AND SHOULD, trust you.

  • Ask about a health guarantee.
Many of today's bulldogs can have a multitude of health issues that have to be dealt with. First of all, you want to avoid a puppy that has health issues. Secondly, you want a breeder that will stand behind their puppies.

  • Last but not least--Do NOT be amazed by the cost of a puppy.
There are a lot of expenses and time that need to be put into each precious bully that we help onto this earth. Prices will vary from region to region.

Good luck in your search for the new master of your house. Please educate yourself before taking that big step!
